This 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee came in for a complete Blue Ox flat tow setup — the right way to get it rolling behind an RV without putting miles on the engine or stressing the drivetrain. Flat towing a modern Grand Cherokee takes more than just hooking up a bar; it requires a properly mounted baseplate, full wiring integration into both tail light harnesses, a breakaway switch, a towed vehicle charge line, and a dedicated power port for the braking system.

We started with full front end disassembly to get the Blue Ox baseplate bolted directly to the frame of the Grand Cherokee. This is a precision fit specific to the 2021–2023 platform, and getting it right means clean lines and a solid connection point for the tow bar. Once the baseplate was set, we mounted the Blue Ox Avail tow bar coupling and ran all wiring through the vehicle using protective loom — keeping it clean and protected for the long haul.

The diode kit was wired into both factory tail light harnesses so the tow vehicle's signals and brake lights carry through to the Grand Cherokee without any interference with the factory electronics. A breakaway switch was mounted directly at the baseplate next to the 6-pin plug, wired as a safety measure to engage the towed vehicle's brakes if it ever separates from the motorhome. A Blue Ox Towed Vehicle Charge Cable was installed to keep the battery topped off on the road, with a dedicated DC 12V port for the RVi4 braking system. After everything was wired and installed, all lights were tested fully functional.
